It has some of the same qualities, yet it is very different. It is a common misconception that permanent is basically just a face tattoo. In fact, the techniques are fundamentally different.
Let’s talk anatomy for a second. The skin has three layers: the epidermis, the outermost layer on top of which we apply makeup; the dermis, which is made up of connective tissue and contains hair follicles and sweat glands; and the hypodermis which is part connective tissue, part fat.
While tattoo ink is implanted full saturation into the top of dermis, ink used for Cosmetic tattoos are implanted with way less saturation.
This is the reason why:
ㆍTattooing hurts a lot more, and
ㆍTattoos last a lifetime (though they may need refreshing), while Cosmetic Tattoos does not.
Permanent Makeup Inks:
Permanent Makeup inks consist of smaller pigment particles suspended in a diluter. This composition allows for a more natural, softer color in the skin, which can be layered to create a realistic finish.
Traditional Tattoo Inks:
Traditional tattoo inks are much more concentrated, resulting in stronger and more vivid colors. These tattoos are often bold and bright. For example, comparing a traditional tattoo to a brow tattoo, you'll notice that the traditional tattoo appears deeper, richer, and often features bright, eye-catching colors.
The procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges and with digitally controlled implantation device. There are no long-term side effects; short-term effects may include some redness, swelling, and tenderness. There are no known allergic reactions to pigments.
Unlike in tattooing or some other type of cosmetic tattoo salons, I uses topical anesthetics that are highly effective to be applied to the treated area which significantly reduces discomfort. Typically, patients will report a tickling sensation with little or no discomfort during or after a procedure has been performed. Please be aware when booking a lip procedure, if you have ever had an outbreak of fever blisters at any point, you must consult with your doctor for a prescription of Valtrex or similar product prior to your procedure.
The treated area must be kept clean. No makeup should be applied for several days. Some skin peeling and lightening of the applied ink color is normal. If any additional adjustments are desired, these will be made during your touch-up appointment. Regular routines usually can be resumed immediately after the procedure. However, tanning or swimming should be avoided for a few days. Normal healing times is between 5 to 7 days and another 5-7 weeks for the skin completely build up to normal level.
Thank you for choosing Advanced Ink for your Cosmetic Tattooing experience. Please read the following instructions to ensure the best results for your treatment.
The following restrictions are to ensure your skin is in the best possible condition for an amazing PMU Brow procedure. Please read carefully!
ㆍDo NOT drink / consume energy drinks, coffee or anything with caffeine for 24 hours prior to your appointment. I don’t want you moving all over during the procedure, plus it increases the likeliness of you bleeding during the procedure, which can negatively impact your pigment retention.
ㆍDo NOT drink alcohol 24 hours before the procedure. Yep, that’s a blood thinner too!
ㆍDo NOT take Aspirin, Niacin, vitamins A, E, B6, Niacin, Fish oil, Omega 3, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort or Evening Primrose oil, unless medically necessary, 48-72 hours prior to the procedure. These supplements thin your blood, and increase the likeliness of bleeding during the procedure. Refrain from alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil) and Alieve for 24 hours prior to your appointment. The only product for aches and pain that can be used and will not make you bleed is Tylenol or Acetaminophen.
NOTE: All of the above vitamins, supplements and medication may make you bleed excessively which during the procedure will negatively affect the longevity of your PMU and in some cases, may need to be prematurely stopped.
ㆍDiscontinue Vitamin A, Retinol, Glycolic Acid and perscription Retin-A products for a minimum of 3 weeks prior to procedure.
ㆍPlease do not work out the day of the procedure, as the body heat will expand the pores.
ㆍAvoid heavy / direct sunlight.
ㆍNo Botox Treatments should be done 3 weeks prior, or for 4 weeks after your PMU procedure, please schedule accordingly to avoid complications!
ㆍNo Accutane Treatments within the past 12 months. This is essential, please schedule accordingly.
ㆍDo not tan 2 weeks prior to your procedure.
ㆍDo not tint your eyebrows for a minimum of 7 days prior to your procedure.
ㆍAny brow shaping including waxing, tweezing or threading should be completed a minimum of 2 days prior to your procedure.
Feel free to come to your appointment with your brow makeup on as this allows me to see what your used to. This is important if you have specific ideas on your brow shape. If open to suggestions I’m happy to provide options that will personally suit you.
The average time required for a procedure is between 1.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on the work needing to be done. A touch-up appointment lasts anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on the amount of work that needs touching up.
A standard appointment will have the following steps:
Consultation:
- Profile the client:
First, I will assess the client’s lifestyle and taste in eyebrows:
Do you want something bold or natural? Do you wear makeup every day or just special occasions? What face shape do you have? Do you keep the same color hair? Do you change your hair? This interview will help me create the best brows for you.
Check to make sure the client is suitable candidate for PMU

➤ “Before” Photos will be take of the brow/eye area:
A condition of proceeding with a PMU Brow procedure is that you authorize me to take and display Before and After Photos. If you have a concern with this, please text me to discuss.
➤ Draw on the eyebrows:
Next, I will draw the eyebrows directly on your face with an eyebrow pencil and a thread. This will be my guide for the PMU Brow procedure. This also allows you to see the final look before any permanent work is performed. Nothing is performed until you approve this design!!!
➤ PMU Brow Application:
I begin the application of choice, following the design drawing I’ve agreed upon with you. Numbing agent will be applied during the procedure.
➤ Client Approval of Finished Design:
I’ll give you a complimentary Abs workout sitting you up, and laying you back down as many times as needed, to ensure both you and I agree that the design is final, and both brows are symmetrical.
Your session are booked with a time cushion between to ensure me – your PMU artist – is NEVER rushed to finish your PMU session, as we believe perfectionist quality far exceeds the importance of the quantity of sessions that can be squeezed into a day like at other studios where you feel like you’re just a number… you’re trusting me with the most defining feature of your face, and I DO NOT take that trust/commitment lightly, and to me, you LOVING your finished Brows is essential!
➤ Remove the excess pigment:
Once the final PMU design has been approved, and the final pigment mask has been completed, I then wipe off any remaining pigment on your face.
➤ Photography & Aftercare:
I will now take the “After” photographs of your new Brows, then provide you with your after-care take home package. The After-Care instructions is always available on my website, so if you feel less than confident you retained all the info discussed because you’re too busy obsessing over how much you’re in LOVE with your new Brows, you have written back-up for reference as needed! 😉
Little to no redness occurs for most of my clients, you will be ready to go back out in public, no problem. Most clients don’t experience swelling, but in the rare event that swelling occurs, a clean tattoo wrapped cold compress can be applied as needed until the swelling subsides.
1- Don’t be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear 20 – 30% darker and thicker in size then you desire, this can last up to 2 weeks and is all part of the healing process. Your skin is red under the pigment, which causes the color of the pigment to appear darker and as your brows begin to flake they will narrow in size.
2- Around days 4 to 7, you will experience flaking/scabbing and your brows may look dry. DO NOT pick your brows, let any dryness fall off naturally. If flakes get picked off this can prematurely damage your PMU resulting in patchy brows that can lead to scarring.
3- DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after your first session, this is a two-step process and it takes time! BE PATIENT during your first 10 day of healing as your brows will change and appear different from day to day.
4- It is normal to lose approximately 1/3 of the color during the healing process. Please be patient, healing takes up to 6-8 weeks.
NANO MACHINE HAIR-STROKES
ㆍThe Nano machine hair-strokes procedure uses a digital machine to implant pigment into the skin.
ㆍThe results of Nano machine hair-strokes procedure typically lasts longer than microblading. Microblading lasts up to 18 months where as the results of nano machine hair-stokes procedure last around 3+ years on average, depending on your skin type & lifestyle.
ㆍMachine Hair-strokes is amazing for all skin types. The machine method causes significantly less trauma to the skin than microblading.
MICROBLADING
ㆍMicroblading is a tattooing technique in which a sharp, handheld tool made up of 7+ micro needles form into a blade is used to add ink to the skin.
ㆍAs microblading result does not last as long as machine tattooing, you will need more frequent touch-up sessions in comparison to the machine method.
ㆍMicroblading is not for everyone. If you have extremely oily skin, you may not be an ideal candidate for microblading treatment. It is also not suitable for thin, fragile, or sensitive skin.
Microblading and Nano Machine Hair-strokes uses a handheld bladed tool or a digital machine to create hair like strokes to mimic natural hair growth. However, Ombre Powder Brow uses a digital machine to implanted ink into the top of dermis.
Ombre Powder is under Shading technique that delivers a shaded natural-looking effect on the skin to give you the look of 'powder / pencil ombre brows' by layering ink from dark to light, resulting in an ombre effect. This technique can produce a bold or soft powder look, depending on your preference. It’s suitable for all skin types, including oily, aging, acne-prone, sensitive, and those who have had previous permanent makeup.
